John Claxton b:
1770-1775; d: 1836-1840 in Bedford or Giles County, TN; He had children born in VA, TN and probably
NC; John appears on the 1812 and 1836 Tax lists in Bedford Co., TN as well as
the 1830 Census; it is thought that he
was the Johnthon Clackston who was a sergeant in Capt. Dempsey's Co., Col.
Newton Cannon's Regiment of the War of 1812.
Also, from a statement made Dec. 12, 1831 by David Claxton while in
the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville, TN, David said he was born in Wilson
Co., TN, raised in Smith and Bedford Counties, TN, and that he had six
brothers, one sister, and his mother and father still living in Bedford Co.,
TN; |
|
|
|
|
+ |
m: (Wife
unknown) Since two sons named a
daughter Sophia it is thought they John's wife's name might be Sophia. They probably married in VA; According to
David's statement she was living in 1831; |

James Claxton b:
September 18, 1798 in VA; d: October 6, 1871 buried in Durbin Cem, Wright
Co., MO; According to the present day
Claxton researchers as published in the "Bedford Co., TN Family History
Book" his father is John Claxton (b:1770/1775); at this time there seems to be no
documentation to prove that he is the son of James and Sarah Hilliams Claxton
and Grandson of William and Mary Ann Anderson Claxton. James volunteered at Fayetteville, Lincoln
County, TN in January of 1818 as a private in the Capt. James Byrn's company
of the 1st Tennessee Volunteers commanded by Col. R. H. Dyer in the Seminole
Indian War. James accepted bounty land
of 80 acres in 1851 and moved to Greene Co. MO by 1855. By 1860 they were in Wright Co., MO. James
was in Bedford Co., TN by 1812 as that was when his father 1st appeared
there; |
